“God loves” is the greatest thing that can be said by lips. . . . If we would try to think of what it means, the whole truth would flash up into fresh newness, and all the miseries and sorrows and perplexities of our lives would drift away down the wind, and we should be no more troubled with them.

Falling

God’s Word says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” — John 3:16

I’m falling,
falling fast,
but there’s hope,
hope for me.

I jumped,
jumped without a chute —
what was I thinking,
thinking I could fly?

Now I’m falling,
falling through the sky;
the earth is nearing,
nearing to end my fall.

Will I die,
die this foolish death?
No, here comes Jesus,
Jesus diving down to me!

So I cling,
cling to my Savior,
and trust we’ll land,
land safely in this fall.
But I find, oh I find,
we never land at all.

For God So Loved

God’s Word says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” — John 3:16

It is the will of Christ that his disciples should have peace within, whatever their troubles may be without.

Matthew Henry

There is nothing to fear. I know that the promises of God are true, for they have been fulfilled in my life time and time again. Jesus still teaches and guides and protects and heals and comforts, and still wins our complete trust and our love.

Godzilla vs. God

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” — John 16:33

Jesus said,
“In this world
you will have trouble.”
Trouble will come
like monsters out of the sea,
unstoppable monsters
hemming you in until
you see no way of escape.
Jesus warned,
you will have trouble;
no walls will keep
these kaiju out.

At times I tremble
at the 100-meter monsters
outside my Tokyo.

But, Jesus also
tells me, “Take heart!
I have overcome the world.”
And in faithful times,
in hope and not in fear,
I can see it’s true.
Between me and
every monster,
if only I had faith to see,
stands a giant Jesus,
beating, taming, leashing,
even using all the monsters.

At times I see
how these Godzillas
bring me close to God.
